International Student Association at Northern Arizona University (IANAU)

IANAU is a student-led organization made up of both International and American students. In addition to acting as the official liaison of the International Student Body to the greater NAU community, IANAU takes an active part in organizing activities for its members and building cultural and international awareness on campus, in the community of Flagstaff and the greater Southwest Region.

Celebrate the world at the 2005 Flagstaff International Festival. This week-long event, November 14th - 19th, is being held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education's International Education Week.

Please refer back to the web site for further additions of events and for updates on the schedule of events. The weeklong festival culminates with an International Fair on Saturday, November 19th. A variety performances, displays and international foods are all part of this days events.

Want to get involved?! There will be International Fair on Saturday, November 19th, where NAU International Students will have booths representing their country. You too could have a booth. Get involved and spread awareness about study abroad and international issues. Sponsor a weekly event. Share your knowledge of the world through your study abroad experience. Have you ever thought about living and working in Japan?

The Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET), a Japanese Government sponsored program, is looking for a few good, energetic and charismatic graduating seniors or alumni to do just that!

There will be a JET representative visiting NAU.

2005 IAESTE Pacific Conference is just around the corner! 
 
Undergraduate and graduate science, engineering, and architecture
students who are interested in developing leadership and cross-cultural
competencies should attend.  Students interested in establishing IAESTE
chapters on their campus are especially encouraged to attend.  The event
will  be held October 21-23 at the University of California-Berkeley. 
 
Educational programming will include:
    -  career development, i.e. how to be a well rounded engineering
    -  tips on how to establish and run an IAESTE student chapter on campus
    -  exploration of pathways to an international technical career

Asian Studies and the Department of History Lecture Series

Lecture by Professor David Ludden titled, Mapping the History of Empires in South Asia

Friday, October 28th from 3:00 to 5:30 PM in LA 135.

David Ludden is Professor of History at the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches World History and South Asian history.  He has been President of the Association of Asian Studies and served as Chair of the South Asian Studies Department at Penn.  His publications range from an analysis of agricultural practices over a thousand year period in Tamilnadu in southern  India, to a critical evaluation of the corpus of Subaltern Studies scholarship.  For more information about Professor Ludden's writing and courses visit his website: http://www.sas.upenn.edu/~dludden/
