The Land Bridge International Writers’ Group

“Creative Writing for Northern Arizona – Bridging cultures and taking names.”

Hello everyone. My name is Zack Jernigan. I recently returned from Santiago, Chile, where I spent the final semester of my Religious Studies undergraduate career. With the help of the Gilman Scholarship and NAU's international Office, my costs were minimized greatly. In order to promote international learning and make people aware of the scholarship opportunities available to anyone wishing to study abroad (as well as liking to read and write), I have formed The Land Bridge Writers Group.

I hope to attract a creative group of people to the group, and produce works of fiction, non-fiction, or poetry for publication. I am looking for pieces written by students while studying abroad (or returned home), as well as works written by anyone interested in the subject of cultural diversity in general.

We meet every other Tuesday, and the next meeting will be the 7th of March at Bookmans (near the cafe). If you have any questions, email me at enjino9@netscape.net, go to www.myspace.com/santiagocolumbar, call me at 928-282-7433, or stop by Bookmans Saturday through Thursday between 9 to 5 (generally) and ask for the bald, surly employee named Zack (there's more than one that fit the description of bald and surly).

Thanks a lot!"

Zachary Jernigan

Summer Jobs - US embassy - 90 locations world wide

Spend a summer working in a U.S. Embassy in one of 90 locations throughout the world!

The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service's International Internship Program is a PAID internship program and is in need of applicants!

This is an annual program. Applications are due in mid-February each year. Check the program web page for details.

The Foreign Agricultural Service's International Internship Program provides college students the opportunity to live and work in a paid  internship at an American Embassy overseas.  Through work assignments participants learn various aspects of international trade, trade policy, international relations, diplomacy, regional and cultural considerations, etc.

Positions are available in Western Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

The internship is offered every semester and summer for graduate students and pperclassmen (juniors and seniors).

Requirements:
Be a currently enrolled graduate or undergraduate student (must be a junior or a senior), a U.S.citizen and in good academic standing.  Graduate level students in business, international
relations, regional studies (i.e. Latin American Studies, Asian Studies, etc), public policy, foreign languages, etc., as well as high-achieving junior and senior undergraduates in similar majors are particularly encouraged to apply, though the program is open to all majors.

Please see the application at this website:

Expanding Your World

Northern Arizona University is embarking on a campus wide internationalization strategy that will ideally increase international program opportunities for NAU students and make the campus more reflective of the greater global connections that are reflected in all aspects of humanity.

We would like to hear from you about your study abroad experience. Take a few minutes to write a few paragraphs about your experience. How did it affect you? What value do you place on having these experiences? Make your voice known about your international experiences. The stronger your voice, as students that gain from these experiences, the greater the chance for more opportunities to be available. The International Office will be sharing your stories, along with the stories of NAU professors and staff who pursue professional interests at an international level and foreigners that make Northern Arizona University a part of their education experience, to the NAU community through our electronic campus newsletter. We have a section titled "Expanding Their World" where we highlight stories from these groups. .

You may email Matthew Geisler (Matthew.Geisler@nau.edu) with any submissions that you have. Please send along digital pictures, if possible, of your experiences abroad, so that they can be integrated into your story.
